BEAT : Le battement…….
“Main foundation of so-called pulsed music and origin of musical emotion.”
Four percussionists, four percussion keyboards, four drums, dozens of drumsticks….instruments that are percussed, struck, tapped, caressed, shaken, agitated, scratched, rubbed… Nimble drumsticks that transform melodies, a drum kit that gives rhythm to everything it hears: classical, jazz, gypsy, Afro-Brazilian… A wildly energetic, skilful and funny mix of contemporary and traditional music.
Winners of several international competitions (Gaetano Zinetti in Verona, Européennes d’Alsace in Illzach…), Gabriel Benlolo, Laurent Fraiche, Jérome Guicherd and Hervé Trovel assemble original arrangements, creations, compositions and original pieces in a mixture of gestures and sounds that reinvents the chamber music concert as a true spectacle!
They perform all over the world, preaching the magic of percussion from a new angle: “Le Spectacle” in 2007 and “Le Spectacle” in 2008. [Kromoritmos] in 2012 and Chuuut in 2018 directed by Pierre-Jean Carrus, “Drumblebee” winner of the YAMA, Junge Ohren and YEAh Awards directed by Daniel Tanson.
These last 2 shows were produced by the Philharmonie du Luxembourg.
They are also dedicatees and creators of “Cythere” a concerto for percussion quartet and orchestra by Guillaume Connesson, for which he received the Victoire de la Musique award for best contemporary creation in 2015.
The Quatuor Beat plays on Bergerault and Sabian instruments and Resta-Jay mallets.
He is in residence at the Conservatoire de Musique de Sartrouville.
